Philosophy of Biology Lab Group

Hosted by Professors of Philosophy Roberta Millstein and James Griesemer.

We call our reading group a "lab" because the purpose is to provide support for the research activities of the two faculty and approximately eight graduate students (plus any visitors) who are part of the group. To that end, we read papers that will help promote the research projects of group members, read drafts of group members' papers, and provide a venue for practice presentations and discussion. We examine concepts and methods in the biological sciences, often evolution, ecology, and genetics, but not limited to those. Current interests include biological individuality, models of mechanisms in biology, biological communities and ecosystems, concepts of environment, animal cognition, and biological notions of "race".

Open to all. Meeting schedule and location TBD (likely Fridays 1-3).
